    “Very, VERY good!”

by Marc from CA on Aug 18 2010

These foam tips have made a disappointingly ordinary pair of in ear canal monitors into a pretty decent pair of in ear canal monitors. They fit the buds quite well, don't fall off like the cheesy Apple silicone tips and actually improve the sound, or probably more accurately said, finally allow me to hear what the drivers are actually capable of. I also own Etymotic ER-4 and Shure SE 530 in ear canal monitors. The Apples will never approach these other brands performance, not even with the improvements the Comply Foam tips bring. But while they won't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, they finally let the Apples play for all they're worth. Bass is MUCH improved, (simply having a quieter background let's me hear more bass extension and detail than the original silicone tips ever did) and the mid-range is definitely more detailed. And the high frequencies seem smoother, less hashed than before. Again, it has to be the quieter background. My only complaint is the foam tip could be just a skosh longer for me, maybe I'll try the large size next time (I chose the medium size for my first order) to get a wee bit more penetration. I wear my ear buds for 8 to 12 hours at a time and while they NEVER come out, they do occasionally get oh so slightly loose. But NOT anything close to what what Apples were like. The Apple tips were loose every 15 to 20 minutes and WOULD actually fall out if I didn't constantly re-seat them. It would also be cool if they were washable, but I don't know if they are or aren't. Once my first pair is sufficiently soiled, I'll find out. In order to give full disclosure, the very nice lady from Comply (Hearing Components, Inc.) did give me a discount and THEN once I was ready to order asked me to write a review. But I assure you I wasn't swayed in my feelings by that. And if you think my opinion can be bought for ... when I have over $700 worth of in ear canal monitors then you are WAY too cynical for your own good. These tips are what should have come on the Apples in the first place. And now that I've learned what they can do for the mundane Apple buds, I'm going to take off the triple flanges on my Etymotics and Shures and install their originally supplied foam tips as well. If you are thinking about buying these, do it. You will seldom get as much performance improvement for only $15.00.

    “Ex-ce-llent!”

by Cas from NH on Jun 20 2010

Shame on Apple you can't buy replacement tips for their in ear buds. In fact they should have shipped these instead of their own: excellent fit, excellent sound! And they are affordable too! Before I used the biggest Apple tips, but the M size of Comply suits fine.

“Pity I didn't buy these replacements earlier”

by David from Victoria on Jun 16 2010

When I first bought the Apple's In-ear I thought it was the biggest waste of money. I found the silicon tips, although very comfortable, had a really bad fit. 90% of the time I 'felt' the silicon tips crinkling and hence it would never seal properly. Even when it did (and the bass was pretty good) it would last about 30seconds - everytime I moved my head it would go loose. Not to mention the annoying microphonics. I ended putting them aside until I was upgrading all my other IEMs with comply foam tips and decided to pick these up (even though I had far better IEMs by this stage). Suddenly the Apple's IEM are back in the running!!! The tips fixed all my issues! Now I use the Apple's as my general IEMs as I love the volume control they offer!

    “Great replacement!”

by Sara from IL on Apr 26 2010

This is a great replacement for Apple's flimsy silicon buds that frequently go flying off when you take your headphones off. At first I was annoyed at how difficult they were to get on to the in-ear posts, but quickly realized the firm fit is one of Comply's foam buds best features. EXTREMELY comfortable and great noise canceling seal. Worth the price!
